A hernia typically causes symptoms such as aching when straining or standing. Hernias will generally not go away by themselves and will progressively enlarge over time. As long as there are no significant medical problems, hernias should be repaired once diagnosed. Rarely, intestine will bulge out a hernia defect and become stuck. The blood supply to the intestine may become compromised and emergency surgery is necessary. |
